Shores group progressing

Three new members — Jim Heaton, Dale Naegle and Marvin Cohen — have joined the La Jolla Shores Long Range Vision Committee.

The group is studying how other coastal communities similar to La Jolla have revised or updated their Planned District Ordinances (PDOs) governing commercial and residential development. They are formulating a long-range set of guidelines for what the diverse La Jolla neighborhood should look like well into the future.

Heaton is past president of the La Jolla Shores Association advisory group, Cohen is a La Jolla community planner with extensive PDO experience, and Naegle is a high-profile architect in the community.

Visions group members evaluating “model” communities are: Barry Graceman, who is looking at the Montecito area near Santa Barbara; Rob Whittemore, Carmel; Ed Furtek, Del Mar; Jim Fitzgerald, Santa Fe, N.M.; and Cynthia Bond, Charleston, S.C., and Jamestown, R.I.

The Visions group is part of the La Jolla Shores PDO Update Committee and is composed of individuals who are also trustees of the La Jolla Shores Association and the La Jolla Community Planning Association. The committee meets at 4 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at 7833 Via Capri. Call (858) 551-8435.
