Sewer construction work is under way near the corner of La Jolla Boulevard and Marine Street in La Jolla.

The project, known as Sewer Group 742, is replacing old and deteriorated sewer mains that were originally installed between 1910 and 1940. The project consists of installing approximately 3,800 linear feet of 8-inch sewer mains by conventional excavation method.

Approximately 430 linear feet of sewer main within an easement along private properties between Sierra Mar Drive and Hillside Drive will be abandoned in place and a new sewer main will be installed along Sierra Mar Drive. The existing sewer laterals will be rerouted within the properties to connect to the new main in the street as part of the replumb work.

Related work will include traffic control, erosion control and storm drain inlet protection, pedestrian ramps, replacement of sewer laterals, installation of new manholes and restoration of disturbed areas to their original condition. Street resurfacing is also included in the project.

The project began construction activities in August 2009 and is scheduled to complete in December 2010, with possible additional working days for inclement weather. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Construction cost is approximately $889,620.
