Sewage spill into San Elijo Lagoon closes area beaches on Dec. 28

WARNING SIGNS POSTED AT ACCESS POINTS

The beaches listed below are closed due to suspected sewage contamination. Signs warning of sewage contamination will be posted. As a result of the force main break, an estimated 1500 gallons of sewage spilled from a pump station located on Manchester Avenue at Via Poco and into the San Elijo Lagoon. The spill was discovered at 11:45 a.m. on 12/28/11.

City of Encinitas crews are working to control the release. As a result, the beaches 100’ north and 100’ south of the San Elijo Lagoon outfall will be posted, as well as the major access points within the San Elijo Lagoon.
