Warning signs have been posted around Tourmaline Surfing Park after an estimated 4630 gallon sewage spill occurred Monday near Van Nuys Canyon. It was discovered at 11:40 a.m.
City of San Diego crews were able to correct the problem and recovered an estimated 4430 gallons. The spill was from a blockage in the system.
The sewage flowed into Van Nuys Canyon, with an estimated 200 gallons flowing into the Pacific Ocean at the foot of Tourmaline Street. Signs warning of sewage-contaminated water have been posted around Tourmaline Surfing Park, and will remain in place until samples confirm the water is safe for recreational use.
