The Senior Community Centers honored its heroes during a luncheon at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel recently. It was the 10th annual Heroes Luncheon to pay tribute to “local residents and organizations that make a difference in the lives of San Diego’s seniors living in poverty.”
This year’s worthy crop of recipients included Senior Award-winner Jimmy Lowe (a resident of the Potiker Family Senior Residence), Clelland & Company, Inc. (winners of the Volunteer Hero Award), and Community Hero Award-winners, The San Diego Padres Employees.
Molly Cartmill chaired the event, with La Jolla’s own Marge and Neal Schmale as Honorary Chairs.
Thanks to these local heroes the Senior Community Centers can continue to help low-income seniors survive in San Diego by providing vital services and affordable housing.
Among the many locals contributing to the record-breaking turnout of about 725 people were Mitch and Julie Dubick (Mitch is board chairman), Becky and Robert Clelland, Lyle and Sue Kalish, Ron and Dede Carlson, Frank Arrington, Joy Vaccari, Gail Lay Kee, Monica Knowles, City Council President Scott Peters, Arlene Prater and Carol Chang.
