SeaWorld releasing sea lion that hid under police car
A sick juvenile sea lion that took refuge under a police car in Ocean Beach, and was rescued and nursed back to health at SeaWorld, was expected to be released back into the wild Thursday.
Nicknamed “Cop Car,” the sea lion was rescued the morning of May 5. San Diego police said they received a call about 4 a.m. that day about a wayward marine mammal at Abbott Street and Newport Avenue.
When officers arrived, the seal scuttled under the police car and stayed there for about four hours, until a SeaWorld wrangler coaxed it out.
