A University City woman was behind bars today for allegedly assaulting another motorist following a collision outside a mall near her home, then leading police on a leisurely road chase through the area.
Thuy Nguyen, 29, is suspected of intentionally crashing her black Mercedes sedan into another vehicle in a parking lot at Regents Road and Arriba Street shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego police.
Nguyen then allegedly got out of her car and physically assaulted the other motorist before driving off, SDPD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.
When officers responding to the altercation caught Nguyen on Nobel Drive near Towne Centre Drive, she refused to yield, instead continuing to drive through the area at “very slow speeds,” Munoz said.
Eventually, the suspect ran over tire-flattening spike strips officers laid in her path on La Jolla Village Drive, near Executive Way.
At that point, Nguyen pulled to a stop and was arrested. She was booked into county jail on suspicion of assault and evading police.
