Scripps Cancer Center in San Diego has received network accreditation from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, the center announced Monday.

It is the first multi-hospital cancer program in California, and one of only 28 nationally, to earn the accreditation, according to Scripps.

The center, which provides patient care and support services

at five hospital campuses in San Diego County, was granted a three-year accreditation.

Officials from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer visited Scripps facilities in June for inspections and to review 174 cancer cases.

Scripps received commendation in clinical services and patent management, quality improvement, clinical research, community outreach and education, staff education and support and program structure and leadership.
