School district’s top attorney resigns
Mark Bresee, general counsel of San Diego Unified School District, has resigned from the district, effective Nov. 30.
Bresee informed Supt. Bill Kowba of his decision a week ago, and submitted his letter of resignation to the Board of Education on Oct. 21. He will join the education law firm of Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo
as a partner.
Bresee, who joined the district two years ago has focused on reorganizing the district legal office to reduce costs by handling more legal matters with in-house staff, according to a press release.
Recently Bresee was the target of Trustee John de Beck, who called for him to step down, saying he had lost confidence in Bresee’s abilities after the attorney excluded de Beck from a closed session.
