Share

The next cleanup event in La Jolla sponsored by The Nell Carpenter Beautification Committee will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Volunteers will meet at the alley between Girard Avenue and Silverado Street behind Union Bank, 7807 Girard Ave. Silverado Street will be the focus of the cleanup.

Refreshments will be provided for volunteers, and Junk MD will assist in trash removal following the event.

Regular community clean-ups are being sponsored by the Streetscape/Design Committee, a joint committee of Promote La Jolla and La Jolla Town Council, and coordinated by Esther Viti.

The Streetscape Committee functions under the La Jolla Streetscape Improvement Agreement signed in 1992 between the two groups.

The purpose of the Streetscape Committee, which meets at 5:30 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month at 1150 Silverado St., is to work to beautify and improve the Village through such actions as removing trash, adding and maintaining landscaping, and removing or consolidating unsightly news racks.

Women voters to meet

The La Jolla Unit of the League of Women Voters of San Diego will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 12 at the Riford Center at 6811 La Jolla Blvd.

Members will begin to explore a proposal by Common Cause and Repair California to hold a constitutional convention in order to overhaul the California Constitution.
