Sanford-Burnham announces new trustees
Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute (Sanford-Burnham) has announced the addition of four members to its Board of Trustees.
They are Roberta and Malin Burnham, longtime supporters of the institute, named honorary trustees; Pauline Foster and Nico Nierenberg, founder of Actuate Software Corp. He previously served as board chair.
Current board chair Greg Lucier praised the Burnhams, saying, “Roberta and Malin Burnham have been our strongest supporters for nearly 30 years and are most deserving of this honor. They embody the true spirit of philanthropy, and we are grateful for their many contributions to this extraordinary Institute.”
Roberta and Malin join existing honorary trustees Joe Lewis, Conrad Prebys and T. Denny Sanford.
Malin Burnham
is vice-chairman of Cushman & Wakefield Global Real Estate Solutions and is part of John Burnham & Company Insurance/Burnham Real Estate Services. Since 1982, Burnham has served 10 terms on the Sanford-Burnham board, including four terms as chairman.Roberta Burnham
serves as the vice president and director of the Burnham Foundation and is an active participant in the family’s major philanthropic activities. She previously worked for Bank of America.Pauline Foster
, a San Diego native, is president of Foster Investments.Nicolas C. Nierenberg
has been chairman of the board at Actuate Software Corp. since he co-founded the company in 1993. He became its chief architect in 2000. Previously, Nierenberg co-founded Unify Corporation, which develops and markets relational database development tools.
