The Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla received a $6.5 million gift from the Switzerland-based Nomis Foundation on Monday to fund immunobiology research.

The donation will be used to establish the Nomis Foundation Chair, a fellowship program to train and support 10 scientists and to purchase technology and equipment for immunobiology research, according to the Salk Institute.

The Nomis Foundation, established by former Salk Trustee G.H. “Heini” Thyssen, also gave the Salk Institute $11.5 million two years ago to start the Nomis Center for Immunobiology and Microbial Pathogenesis.
