Salk readying for concert
Bernadette Peters to be featured
The 14th annual Symphony at Salk - A Concert Under the Stars, this year featuring Tony Award-winner Bernadette Peters performing with the San Diego Symphony with guest conductor Thomas Wilkins, will be held Saturday.A native New Yorker who has starred in musical theater, films and television as well as headlining solo concerts and recordings, Peters is one of the most critically acclaimed Broadway actresses and the youngest person every inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame. She will perform with the San Diego Symphony under the direction of guest conductor Wilkins, who returns to lead the symphony for the fifth consecutive year.
Proceeds benefit groundbreaking biological research at Salk Institute, as well as Institute-sponsored community programs such as the Salk Mobile Science Lab and the High School Science Day. Founded in 1960 by vaccine pioneer Jonas Salk, M.D., the Institute is an independent nonprofit organization and architectural landmark.
Tickets, available online, are $250 each ($150 tax-deductible) and include a pre-concert champagne reception, concert seating, supper, wine, parking and an optional tour of the Salk Institute.
Symphony at Salk is held in the Theodore Gildred Court offering sunset views amidst the laboratories of Salk’s Nobel prize-winning scientists.
Honorary chair of Symphony at Salk is internationally renowned artist Francoise Gilot, widow of Jonas Salk, whose “Floating Paintings” series recently displayed at Salk Institute.
