Salk expansion goes to planners
The city Planning Commission is scheduled to hear the Salk Institute’s proposed expansion possibly during the morning on Sept. 4 on the 12th floor Council Chambers at the City Administration Building in downtown San Diego.
The project proposes a phased expansion to the existing Salk Institute campus including demolition of the west buildings and accessory building and the phased construction of the Torrey East Laboratory Building, Salk Community Center, North Peninsula underground parking facility, and greenhouses, for a total of 476,000 square feet upon completion.
The Salk Institute is located on a 26.3-acre site, with more than 289,000 square feet of space at 10010 North Torrey Pines Road.
Two new underground parking garages would be built near the of existing on-site surface lots.
