Bird Rock’s roundabouts took center stage Wednesday when more than 100 traffic officials visited La Jolla to see the traffic-calming project.
The morning started with a seminar at the Museum of Contemporary Art, with officials talking about the roundabouts, detailing their background and history and talking about the proper way to negotiate them.
Afterwards, participants - local, state and federal representatives, construction engineers and communications professionals - took a walking tour around Bird Rock to see a first-hand demonstration of their proper use and then regrouped for more discussions.
The event was billed as the Roundabout Product Demonstration Showcase. It was sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration, CalTrans, the city of San Diego, UC Berkley’s Technology Transfer Program, Hard Hat Communications and the Utah Local Technical Assistance Program.
