Road work jams morning traffic

Work to repair problems associated with a fire hydrant with a faulty valve that caused flooding last Thursday evening at the busy “Throat” intersection is now underway and expected to be completed later today.

Crews are fixing the lateral pipeline that connects from the fire hydrant to the water main, said Arian Collins, spokesman for the San Diego Water Department.

“They have dug a trench and now they’re doing the final work to repair the lateral and the valve, and they will restore the trench and put the fire hydrant back in service and open the street back up by 3 p.m. today.”
