‘The Friends of the Riford Center are pleased to announce that construction on the ADA entrance will begin Monday, Dec. 12, said Glen Rasmussen, board chairman. “This HUD grant will make us ADA compliant and will also enhance the building.”

Ruth Yansick, CEO, wants to thank the community for their support and donations in making this a successful undertaking.

“It’s all about giving back to the community,” she said. “The Riford Center is La Jolla’s only community center. We are encouraging the public to make a year-end donation to the Center to help us keep our programs going and meet our expenses through the three months of construction.”

Sherry Ahern, chair of the Capital Campaign, has been moving ahead with obtaining additional donations.

“We are looking forward to working with Pancho Dewhurst from GDC Construction and Michael Morton from Morengo Morton Architects,” said Rasmussen noting “this project should be completed within three to four months from start to finish.”

“All of our programs will continue,” noted director Nancy Walters. “We will remain open during construction with ongoing classes like bridge, yoga, jazzercise, language and cooking classes and daytrips. All activities are still ongoing and it’s business as usual.”
