Residents urged to wear red, black to support SDSU Aztecs
Mayor Jerry Sanders urged residents to wear red and black on Thursday to cheer on the San Diego State University Aztecs men’s and women’s basketball teams in the first-round of the NCAA tournament.
“With about 100,000 SDSU alumni in San Diego, seeing our teams in the national tournament is a huge source of local pride,” Sanders said. “We want the teams to know that all of San Diego is rooting them on to victory.”
Both the men’s and women’s SDSU basketball teams won their respective Mountain West Conference tournament championships in Las Vegas last weekend.
The Aztecs men’s basketball team will take on Tennessee in Providence, R.I., Friday.
The SDSU women’s basketball team will battle the University of Texas Longhorns on Sunday.
