Reflecting on past year of Town Council
By Earl Van InwegenPresident, La Jolla Town Council
As I leave the past year as president of the La Jolla Town Council, I am in many ways relieved in that I will have more time for other volunteer activities, primarily revolving around veterans organizations and activities. In retrospect, the year has been somewhat in turmoil with the PLJ/BID, Seal vs. Children’s Pool, No Third Story and Town Council budget issues.
However, I must pass on my congratulations and many thanks to my “fellow” trustees and officers, and Cindy, our office manager, and Darcy, our past Town Council president, who have counseled me and tried to keep me on the straight and narrow in carrying out my duties as president.
Our civic responsibilities as La Jolla residents and business owners are oft-times frustrating as we are subservient and in many ways dependent on our “parent,” the City of San Diego. Having Sherri Lightner and Erin Demorest in our District 1 council office has been a boon for the “Village,” and I must thank them for their dedicated representation of our issues.
We have a great, experienced and full set of trustees and officers as we enter a new year. As past president, I have a final year on the council and look forward to working with the new board. I salute you all for a challenging, but rewarding year.
