Environmental and city officials urge residents to take advantage of Christmas tree recycling programs that will be available through Jan. 23.
The trees are ground up into mulch or compost and help reduce the load on the Miramar landfill, said Elmer L. Heap Jr., director of the Environmental Services Department.
Residents with curbside yard waste collection can leave their trees outside on regular pickup days. Trees taller than four feet should be cut in half, and all stands and decorations must be removed.
In addition, there are daylight drop-off sites at Kate Sessions Park at Soledad Road and Loring Street and at the Miramar Landfill on Convoy Street, north of Highway 52.
