For the first time in more than 10 years, the La Jolla Recreation Center had a youth flag-football team in 2014, and what a comeback season the team handed the program!

Under the guidance of coach Erik Romero, with help from Recreation Center director Nicole Ann Otjens and the support of many parents, the Rec Center’s La Jolla Sharks won the City of San Diego Community Park 1 League Championship!

Commending the players, Otjens told them, “Great job La Jolla Sharks for putting La Jolla Recreation Center back on the map!”

Moving forward, the Rec Center is expanding its sports program to include basketball. Registration for youth basketball (ages 8 to 12) is open through Jan. 8 online at bit.ly/ljreccenter or by visiting the Rec Center at 615 Prospect St.
