Rebates increase for high-energy washing machines
The amount of the rebate for high-efficiency clothes washers has been raised to $150, the San Diego County Water Authority announced recently. The amount is an increase of $50 for approved models with a grant from the state Department of Water Resources. The Metropolitan Water District and San Diego Gas & Electric Co. each provide $50 of the current rebate.
According to the San Diego County Water Authority conservation Web site, www.20gallonchallenge.com, a high-energy washer can save 20 to 30 gallons of water per load compared with standard top-loaders.
