Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego recently received a $25,000 grant from the Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation to continue funding of an innovative nursing leadership and education curriculum at the hospital.

This is the fourth year the foundation has provided a $25,000 grant, bringing the total to $100,000.

With this latest grant, more than 100 emerging hospital nursing leaders from a range of disciplines will have received leadership training over a four-year period. This year’s grant will specifically support leadership coaching sessions for a new class of leaders, 27 of whom are nurses.

“After breaking her hip at the age of 86, Ellen Browning Scripps founded the Scripps Memorial Hospital to provide high-quality health care for the citizens of San Diego and beyond,” said Doug Dawson, executive director of the Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation. “Upon her death in 1932, one newspaper described her as ‘the benefactor of humankind and a woman with the heart of a nurse.’ ”
