Promote La Jolla, Inc. the community’s Business Improvement District, is sponsoring a demonstration of a mounted patrol on Saturday, Aug. 9 starting at 9 a.m. in the Village of La Jolla.

“We’re partnering with National Public Safety, a private police service, to bring a mounted horse patrol to the Village to have them patrol Girard Avenue and Prospect Street,” said Tiffany Sherer, Promote La Jolla’s executive director. “The concept is for them to make a sweep of the street to make sure everything is safe and looking good before shop owners open at 9:30 or 10 a.m.”

Sherer said the patrol is something of a trial run.

“We’re going to see how it works, how merchants respond,” she said, “see if they’re interested in contributing to pay for the service on an ongoing basis. We’re just looking to get the merchants feedback.”
