Presenting the New Apple TV

Share

At Modern Homes Systems, we are very excited about the latest innovations from Apple TV, which we are carrying in our stores in time for the holidays.

You’ve probably seen all the apocalyptic advertisements announcing the end of cable hookups for television, and sure, they seem ridiculous. But Apple TV is the alternative to cable and satellite we’ve been waiting for. If you don’t already have an Apple TV or you have an older version and want to update, now is the time.

Apple TV has a user-friendly interface, featuring all your apps, such as Netflix, Hulu, and iTunes, on the home screen. Oh, and you can subscribe to HBO and Showtime directly from your Apple TV WITHOUT any other cable or satellite subscription. You can also customize full-season sports subscriptions from the NBA, NHL, and MLB.

Wait until you see the remote

One of the newest features we’re excited about is the Siri remote. Yes—you no longer have to scroll over the alphabet to painstakingly type in a movie or series title. You can say, “Siri, I want to watch The Empire Strikes Back,” or “Siri, show all Bill Murray movies,” or “Siri, is Jon Snow alive?” and “Where is Glenn?” (Okay, maybe not the last questions.) You can further refine your searches with Siri, so you can say, “Siri, show me only the good Bill Murray movies,” and Siri will scroll through the Rotten Tomatoes database to bring you only the top rated Bill Murray movies. Your TV skips over Garfield and Rock the Kasbah for you.

You can also have Siri pull up different apps

“Siri, pull up MLB” seems pretty snazzy, but even better? You can ask Siri to show you specific sports scores, or the weather, or have her access your personal settings. She can even pull up your stocks.

An exciting new feature is that you can ask Siri to “Reduce Loud Sounds,” which will soften music and sound effects and actually boost the volume of the dialogue. Also, we’ve all had the experience of someone in Westeros suddenly whisper something we can’t quite make out. The system is so advanced that if you miss anything Littlefinger or Tyrion Lannister say, you can ask Siri, “What did he just say?” Siri will skip back and temporarily turn on closed captioning.

The best remote in just about ever

Like the previous version of the Apple TV remote, the newest model is small and sleek. The update is the Touch surface at the top: You can use your thumb to swipe, scroll, and select to navigate across your screen, meaning no more clicking of seemingly-endless arrow buttons to get what you want. Apple TV has also updated the scrubbing feature, so that you can swipe across the timeline and use the preview frames to pinpoint where you want to go rather than settling for “approximately.”

Play games straight from the apps on your TV

That’s right, no additional devices. Just your Apple TV and your SteelSeries Nimbus Wireless Controller.

The processor comes with an A8 chip with 64-bit architecture, and Apple TV is compatible with high-definition TVs with HDMI3. Siri Remote is compatible with the new Apple TV (4th generation). Full specs can be found here.

And finally…

You can also view and share your photos through the iCloud directly from your TV, as well as access over 30 million songs through Apple Music. They have clearly reset the bar for your home entertainment experience.
