At a readiness conference Tuesday morning, a preliminary hearing for Ronald Troyer, 66, a transient who pleaded not guilty to one felony count of reckless driving causing injury and two allegations that he caused great bodily injury to two other people in an Aug. 15 car crash in Bird Rock, was rescheduled from Sept. 2 to Oct. 13.

“What happened today was we changed the (court) dates,” said David Uyar, prosecuting attorney in the case. “Another readiness hearing, where the parties get together with the judge to determine whether everyone’s on track to have those dates, has been scheduled for Sept. 28.”

On Oct. 13, said Uyar, the court will hear testimony as to whether or not there is sufficient evidence for the case to go to trial.

Results of a blood test Troyer took following the Aug. 15 crash are pending. He is alleged to have driven through a roundabout striking three teens on a sidewalk before crashing through the front window of Cass Street Cafe and less seriously injuring two patrons seated at a table, is pending.

One of the teens, Alani Aguerre, remains in intensive care but her father said her condition is slightly improved. The two boys who were with her are recuperating at home following surgery.
