Power restored after outage this morning
A wayward seagull damaged a transformer in La Jolla today, causing a power outage that affected several streets and traffic signals, authorities said.
San Diego firefighters responding to a report of a fire near Eads Avenue and Pearl Street around 6:20 a.m. discovered the damaged transformer, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher said, adding that there was no fire.
San Diego Gas & Electric’s Web site reported that more than 1,800 customers in the La Jolla area lost power.
But the utility says the site generally overestimates the extent of outages because its reports are based on how many customers are served in an affected area and does not distinguish those served by different power lines.
