A driver who refused to yield to a California Highway Patrol officer on state Route 52 in the Clairemont area Thursday crashed the vehicle he was driving moments later, then made a failed attempt to escape on foot, officials said.
The driver fled from the officer on the eastbound side of the freeway about 4:10 p.m., the CHP reported.
A short time later, the speeding motorist lost control of his vehicle, which spun out and crashed just west of Interstate 805. He then jumped and bolted but was promptly taken into custody, CHP public affairs Officer Larry Landeros said.
It was not immediately clear why the officer tried to pull over the driver, Landeros said.
