Philanthropy Spotlight: Jewish Community Foundation San Diego

Since its inception in 1967, the Jewish Community Foundation has granted more than half a billion dollars to nonprofits. With assets of $265 million, the foundation is the leading grant maker in San Diego. Last year, it handed out more than $67 million in grants to fund 1,200 organizations.

Through its Endowment Leadership Institute (ELI), 125 community members left Jewish bequests for the community last year, bringing to 630 the number of families who have established legacies for the Jewish community in the four years ELI has existed.

The foundation partners with individuals, families and community organizations to help them achieve their philanthropic goals and to increase current and future support for a lively, safe and sound Jewish community in not only San Diego, but around the world.

This year, the foundation began its Philanthropy Connections program, a novel instructive course for donors created by the Governance Leadership Institute to guarantee exceptional governance practices among organizations that are building their donations.
