Philanthropy Spotlight: Center for Community Solutions

The Center for Community Solutions works to build healthy, peaceful and safe communities in San Diego by working to reduce the incidence of sexual assaults and relationship violence and to aid victims of these crimes.

Growing out of San Diego State University’s Center for Women’s Studies and Services, originally founded in 1969, the CCS introduced San Diego’s first 24-hour domestic violence hotline in 1977.

Today, the center also provides counseling and therapy for victims of relationship violence and their families, assists victims in obtaining temporary restraining orders and operates an emergency shelter.

Reaching out to the young members of San Diego County, the center runs a youth-to-youth help line and offers interventions for those involved in domestic violence or substance abuse. Thirty percent of the center’s budget is directed at education and prevention programs, including after-school programs.

Local events such as the annual Chef Showdown and Tea by the Sea play an important role in raising funds and awareness for the center.
