Patriots call on Ortiz

Robert Ortiz, a trainer with the Athletic Nation personal training gym, was added to the New England Patriots playoff roster as a wide receiver on Jan. 4 and was active for the team’s loss on Sunday against the New York Jets.

A graduate of San Diego State University who had been on the Chargers, Seahawks and 49ers rosters, he had tried out for the Patriots squad last fall, according to Betsy Retana, owner of the La Jolla gym.

He joined Athletic Nation four months ago, working as a personal trainer and running outdoor fit camps and the sport/football specific for high school students and older athletes.

He also has a clothing line, ArtistiCreation that he is currently getting off the ground, Retana said.
