Panel will hear ideas on La Jollan’s skatepark plan

A recently proposed skate park in La Jolla will be a discussion item on the agenda at La Jolla Parks & Recreation Inc.'s next meeting at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, in Room 2 at La Jolla Rec Center, 615 Prospect St.

Longtime La Jollan Marnie Gavit will give more details on her suggestion to build a community skatepark on the rec center’s grounds, which are in line for being remodeled in phases under a conceptual master plan first unveiled in March 2009.

Preliminary remodeling plans propose moving the center’s existing basketball courts behind the center off to the side while adding a front-entry sculpture plaza and garden, a pergola, lots of shade trees, a palm court and sound, play and picnic areas.

Gavit will be joined by representatives from Site Design Group, which designs skate parks, and Tony Hawk Foundation, a nonprofit which promotes them, at the Feb. 24 meeting.
