Pacific Beach man rescued off La Jolla dies at hospital
An unconscious man found floating off La Jolla Cove was pronounced dead Sunday at a hospital.
Kenneth Wagner, 68, of Pacific Beach, was pronounced dead at 8 a.m., according to the county medical examiner’s Web site.
A kayaker spotted the swimmer around 2 p.m. Saturday near a buoy about a quarter mile from the La Jolla Cove shores, said San Diego lifeguard Lt. John Greenhalgh.
Lifeguards got the man to shore, where medics performed CPR. The man, still unconscious, was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.

An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
