Organizers prepping for Coastwise Mile

Share

Entries for the Coastwise Mile & 5K, set for Oct. 2 at La Jolla Cove, are now being accepted.

Jocelyn Sanford, spokeswoman for race sponsor Coastwise Capital Group, said with the focus on fun, health and fitness, the event is a great one for families since there are divisions for all levels of runners and adults and children — including a “Baby Jogger” category.

The “Kids Races,” which will all be run on the grass at Scripps Park, include a 25-yard crawl for 0- to 1-year-olds, 50 yards for ages 2 to 4, 250 yards for ages 5 to 7, and 500 for ages 8 to 10. Parents are permitted to run with the younger groups.

Categories are planned for age group, corporate and three-person relay teams, and elite runners, with cash prizes in the elite 5K and mile. Also planned are a health expo, the “Mutt Mile” and a dog costume contest before the racing starts.

Proceeds from the event benefit the San Diego Humane Society and the Scripps Park Project.
