Opinion: Harle Montgomery had youthful spirit
La Jolla residentI was surprised and saddened to read of the passing of Harle Montgomery in the Nov. 4 issue of the La Jolla Light. I got to know Harle when, as the staff photographer for the Light, I had the pleasure of shooting a four-generation family photo at her cliffside home for a cover story on La Jolla mothers. She loved that cover and asked me for some copies of the photo, which I was happy to do for her.
She made a big impression on me with her youthful spirit, energy and appealing personality, not to mention her major generosity to the community in so many projects and concerns. I always enjoy meeting people older than myself and taking what I can from their life wisdom and she was amazing to me. I made a point of saying hello whenever I saw her at local functions and always enjoyed the conversation. The last time I saw her was at a function benefiting the La Jolla Playhouse before the 2008 presidential elections and we had a great and memorable 45-minute chat about politics and life in general. She was such a lovely, engaging lady and left a huge mark on La Jolla.
I will miss her but feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet such a wonderful person and see all the lasting results of her kind generosity.
