Oliphant to head Children’s School
The Children’s School Board of Trustees has hired veteran administrator and former science teacher Brian Oliphant of Harbor Day School in Corona del Mar to become the La Jolla school’s next head of school.
Judybeth Tropp, chairwoman of the school’s board, said in a news release that Oliphant’s “experience, his passion for education and his commitment to innovative, hands-on learning made him the ideal choice to lead our school.”
He was the board’s unanimous choice, the release noted.
Oliphant will replace outgoing head Molly Huffman in July. She is relocating to San Francisco to become head of school at the Children’s Day School.
Oliphant is currently director of the upper school at Harbor Day, where he has been for seven years. While there, he created and implemented a social curriculum to meet the unique needs of middle school students. Before Harbor Day, Oliphant was at Campbell Hall School in North Hollywood for 14 years. A native of Scotland, he earned degrees in science, including a master’s in environmental sustainability with distinction from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
