Old-fashioned sweet treats come to La Jolla

Powell’s Sweet Shoppe at 1000 Prospect St. will host a special grand opening event on June 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to bring a touch of sweet nostalgia to La Jolla. Based on the original “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” Powell’s creates a magical setting with giant Pez dispensers, a Memory Lane Section, a tiny theater showing the Willy Wonka movie and every kind of candy you can think of. The grand opening will feature Parris Themmen, who played Mike Teevee in the original movie, signing autographs, clowns, balloons and prizes. For more information, call (858) 459-4421.
