Nordstrom reveals next season’s looks
The fashion-forward got a close look at what spring has to offer during the Nordstrom Designer Preview, held last month at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.
The runway show included American and European collections from Andrew Gn, Yves Saint Laurent, Lanvin, Dolce & Gabbana, Zac Posen, Missoni, Michael Kors, Jean Paul Gaultier, Versace and others.
Designers packed their collections with spring’s knockout trends such as global embellishments, boyfriend jeans, one-shoulder tops and lipstick hues.
The coral crepe jacket, raspberry-printed halter gown and pink chiffon cut-in shoulder dress in Andrew Gn’s yummy collection wowed along with Zac Posen’s silk satin waterfall dress. Dolce & Gabbana’s champagne satin bustier dress wasn’t too shabby, either.
Take a peek at a handful of the looks shown on the runway.
Spring’s most sought-after trends
Lipstick colors:Dresses, jackets and handbags better pucker up. From the palest nude to bright coral, lipstick shades are a key color update.
Harem pants: MC Hammer must be proud. This mid-1980s trend he found too legit to quit wearing rears its distinctive shape again. Basically, the pants are baggy through the hip and thigh and tapered to the calf or ankle. Pair the style with a form-fitting top and strong sandals that balance the silhouette.
Chiffon dress:Once devoted to making formal, nighttime appearances on cruise ships and wedding reception dance floors, chiffon is now oh-so fancy-free. It will show its whimsical facade even in daylight.
Cardigans:A wardrobe staple for spring (and every season, really). Wear a short-sleeved cardigan over a dress or match up a longer style with a pair of boyfriend jeans.
Boyfriend jeans:Katie Holmes should probably take some credit for this one. (Remember her roaming the streets of New York in what were allegedly Tom Cruise’s rolled-up jeans?) While the roughed-up and rugged look seemed questionable at the time, it has grown on designers and fashion-lovers alike. Just role up the cuffs, and you’re paparazzi-ready.
One-shoulder top:Pair this asymmetrical top with a pencil skirt or dark denim, and you’re ready for anything. The one-shoulder design also makes an appearance on dresses.
Maxi dress:The floor-grazing dress is versatile enough to go from lunch with the girls to dinner with whatever lucky guy gets the chance.
Global embellishment:Ethnic-inspired gemstones and hardware give an outfit a touch of worldly class.
Scarf:The gauzy scarf is an easy and affordable way to add an easy, breezy touch to an ensemble.
Oversized slouchy bag:The oversized satchel sinks its soft leather into bold colors as well as neutral nude tones.
Retro-bright shades:Hues such as red and purple spice up oversized, plastic-frame sunglasses.
