Nonprofit joins cleanup

A La Jolla Town Council committee is teaming with a nonprofit home rebuilding organization to launch Taking It to the Streets, a community cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday on Girard Avenue from Prospect Street to Pearl Street.

The effort is a joint project of the Town Council’s Nell Carpenter Beautification/Streetscape Committee, which performs monthly Saturday street cleanups throughout the Village, and Rebuilding Together San Diego, a nonprofit that provides free home repair and renovations for low-income seniors, people with disabilities, veterans and family homeowners.

“This is our flagship event every April, and this year we’re celebrating our 15th anniversary in San Diego,” said Anna Orzel-Arnita, Rebuilding’s program development coordinator.

Rebuilding Together San Diego (RTSD) stands for reinvestment, teamwork, solutions and dedication.

Noting her group receives funding for such projects from the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, Orzel-Arnita said the Rebuilding team is happy to aid Esther Viti, Nell Carpenter chair, in her community improvement efforts.

“We’ll be supporting them with all the materials they need and with refreshments and T-shirts,” she said.

The sign-up table for the event will be in front of Chase Bank, 7733 Girard Ave.
