New managing editor at the La Jolla Light
Dave Schwab has been promoted to the position of managing editor of the La Jolla Light. He was formerly the business editor, a position he held at the Light for more than 10 years.
“Dave has a proven record of solid reporting here in La Jolla,” said Light publisher Brendan Ruff. “He has maintained good relationships here and has a good handle on the organizations and dynamics of La Jolla.”
As managing editor, Schwab will be responsible for ensuring that the Light remains a leader in the community through its coverage of local news and opinions. “The important thing is that this is La Jolla’s community newspaper,” Schwab said. “We want to make the paper more accessible to everyone.”
A 51-year-old native of Joliet, Ill., near Chicago, Schwab graduated from Michigan State University. He came to San Diego 25 years ago and worked at The Daily Californian and the San Diego Business Journal before coming to the Light. He is a resident of Del Cerro.
Schwab said a major goal will be strengthening community outreach and making the paper more interactive. “We’re going to be doing some tweaking - you’re always reinventing yourself and trying to serve the people better,” he said. “Stay tuned. The best is yet to come.”
