Neurosciences fund-raises for arts programs
The Neurosciences Institute in La Jolla has opened its doors to performing arts organizations in San Diego for years. Recently, the Institute held its Fifth Annual “Minding the Arts” fund-raiser to offset the cost of hosting these not-for-profit arts and educational groups in the Institute’s state-of-the-art auditorium. According to Institute figures, this support saves the local arts community more than $300,000 per year. Some of the smaller arts groups might not be able to perform in public, if this free venue were not available.
As usual, the event featured an outdoor cocktail reception in the Institute’s stunning architectural setting. Several local restaurants contributed culinary offerings, including Giuseppe Catering and Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza.
After the reception, guests were ushered into the auditorium for a concert featuring performers from the La Jolla Music Society, violinist Eugene Ugorski (presented by The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library) and other talented artists.
Among the many La Jollans on hand were Merle and Teresa Fischlowitz (honorary chairs), Linda Satz, chair of the afternoon fund-raiser, Derrick Cartwright, Audrey Geisel and Alex Butterfield, Larry and Sherry Kline, Herb and Marie Cheyette, Coop and Patti Cooprider, Jinx Ecke, Gerald Edelman (founder and president of the Institute), Ron and Sook Hansen, Tom and Cindy Goodman, Duane and Renee Roth, Larry and Carol Veit, Esther Nahama, Barbara and Arthur Friedman and Mickey Stern.
