Some of the nation’s best tennis players over the age of 39 will be competing at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club from Dec. 1 to 7.
They’ll face off in men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles at the United States Tennis Association National 40 Hard Court Championships.
Also on Dec. 5 to 7, the club will host the National Father-Son Hard Court Championship and the National Grandfather and Grandson Hard Court Championship.
The field includes former touring pros and the nation’s strongest players in this age group, including:
- Gretchen Magers, Women’s 40 Singles and Doubles, won both events in 2005 and 2006
- Ros Nideffer, Mixed Doubles, is a previous winner
- Robert Van’t Hof and his son will play in the Father/Son Doubles, and Peter Doohan is playing with his dad in the event for the first time
- Trey Waltke makes his debut in Mixed Doubles
Matches begin Monday with singles play in the morning and doubles play in the afternoon.
Finals are set for Dec. 6 and 7.
Admission is free and open to the public, but there is a $5 fee for on-site parking.
