My Art Shed celebrates its first year in La Jolla

It has been a busy year for My Art Shed owner Porschia Talbot. The working studio offers fine art and craft classes for children and adults, along with hosting birthday parties, special events and season children’s camps.

In it’s first year in La Jolla, My Art Shed hosted the Annual Turkey Trot, a Thanksgiving canned food drive for military families and “The Art of Giving,” a fundraiser in memory of Bonnie Adams to benefit the Rady Children’s Hospital and the Polinsky Children’s Center.

My Art Shed also helped create pieces for fundraisers at Gillespie School and La Jolla Elementary and donated free art classes for fundraisers for La Jolla Country Day School, La Jolla United Methodist School, Bird Rock Elementary, St. Germaine Children’s Charity and San Diego Meals on Wheels.

Talbot said she is amazed at the quality and beauty of the art being produced by her first time adult and younger students. Grace-Karina Takiff, 10, won a blue ribbon at the San Diego County Fair this year for her painting of a flamingo completed in her teen painting class.

Another highlight was seeing Adrianne Young complete her first painting, a coastal landscape, while celebrating her 80th birthday.

Summer camps were very popular and more than 30 birthday parties were hosted at My Art Shed. The classes, from the toddler to adult level, are growing rapidly.

Creative boundaries were pushed with children’s specialty classes such as fashion design, skate board design, cartoons, graffiti and yoga-art classes.
