Muirlands students paint a message

It took nearly two months of devotion for Muirlands Middle School’s After-School Mural Painting club, but the nine member students — along with four volunteers and head artist Jane Wheeler — successfully turned a gray concrete wall on Nautilus Street into a bright blue painting that sends a message of “Peace, Love and Change.” It’s the latest in a plan to beautify the school that started five years ago with new art in the lunch court. Wheeler says one of her goals is to make her daughter’s middle school a more inviting place: “We added an arrow on the end pointing up to Muirlands so people know that that’s where something cool is happening. We’re trying to make Muirlands more user-friendly.”
