Eighth-graders finish ‘Interest Projects’

Troop 3259 has been awarded Girl Scouting’s second highest honor, the Silver Award. The troop members are all eighth-graders at Muirlands Middle School and have been Scouting for 10 years. The girls completed several “Interest Projects,” ranging in themes from women’s studies to career research, and they completed many hours of community service work — as individuals and as a group.

Among the troop’s accomplishments are three years of work with Siempre Para Los Ninos, an orphanage in Tijuana, and the planning and execution of a 5K Healthy Heart Walk that raised funds to send 25 underprivileged children to YMCA camp.

In celebration, the girls attended a dinner and awards ceremony with their families at a home in La Jolla recently.

The girls agreed that they are excited to begin work on their Gold Awards in the fall.
