‘Muirlands Rocks’ for funds
If you’ve seen the mural at the Muirlands Middle School tennis court lately and wondered why it says “Muirlands Rocks,” know that the sign is more than a message about the school’s strengths: It’s a reminder about Sunday’s annual fundraiser for the school.
On top of that, the wall is part of the fundraising effort, since people who make a donate will get to autograph the wall.
Muirlands Rocks, Again! will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on the school’s new field. This year’s goal is to raise $20,000 to benefit efforts to add self-defense training to the physical education curriculum and to update the school’s instrumental music room, according to foundation member Lisa D’Angelo.
Organized by the Muirlands Foundation, the event will feature a barbecue menu provided by Muirlands parent Milan Dimich, with the La Jolla High Jazz Ensemble, Local Cheese and other groups adding their musical touch. LJRadio, the school’s radio station, will provide the DJ and emcees.
Last year, when more than 1,000 people attended, the group broke the Guinness Book of World Records for the most people in a three-legged race.
The event is free, but meal tickets must be bought in advance.
