Muirlands event to rock ‘n’ race

Get your gunny sacks out and start practicing your three-legged race skills.

When the Muirlands Foundation holds its Muirlands Rocks event on May 3, it will be trying to set a world record for the largest three-legged race.

The event, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Muirlands Middle School, aims to raise funds to support and enhance the educational mission of the school. The race will start at 6 p.m., with Councilwoman Sherri Lightner officiating.

Organizers said they “felt that the school community needed a good, old-fashioned afternoon of silly fun to celebrate spring and highlight the successes of the school, its students and families. Rather than focusing on direct fundraising, the foundation has playfully called this its first-ever “Fun-raiser.”

Students, prospective students, parents and siblings and community members are invited to join the fun, which includes a barbecue and music, on the athletic field.

Three local bands, Local Cheese, Goddard Brothers and Missy E & Triple Threat - all of which include Muirlands parents as members - will play. The school’s jazz band will also perform, and a student disc jockey from the school’s La Jolla Radio program will serve as the master of ceremonies.

There is no charge to attend. Food will be available for sale.
