More than 500 turned out for the second Coastwise Mile

More than 500 children, adults and critters turned out for the second Coastwise Mile on Saturday.

In addition to the mile-long course, the event featured a 5K race for the first time along with a Mutt Mile, children’s events and a corporate relay.

Winners in the 5K were Christian Hesch of Morrow Bay, 15:58, and Gracie Padilla of Los Angeles, 17:48. The first La Jolla finisher was John Nowoslawski, 17:58.

The elite mile race was won by Jon Rankin, 4:09, and Padilla, 5:04.

In the open mile James Sheremeta of La Jolla won with a time of 4:55 and Darcie Montgomery (no hometown listed), 5:27.

Karla Onstott took top honors in the 1-mile Baby Joggers division, 8:30, and Omar Zavala of San Diego won the Mutt Mile in 5:16.

Team Dunbar of La Jolla captured the Corporate Relay title in 17:17.
