Mitchell a standout for La Jolla High School girls hoops
Bianca Mitchell’s family moved to La Jolla near the end of her freshman year in high school, so she didn’t get a chance to prove herself on the basketball court that year. Ever since, though, she’s been a standout for La Jolla High School’s girls basketball team.
Mitchell, a three-year starter for the Vikings, has helped the team to a 10-11 record and a berth in the CIF San Diego Section Division III playoffs. La Jolla was scheduled to visit Montgomery in the first round on Feb. 24, after the Light’s press time.
Averaging about 15 points and five rebounds per game, Mitchell hopes she can help the Vikings go far in the playoffs.
“We just play really well together,” the senior point guard said. “We have some great players in Anna Parma, Onezia Berotte and Taylor Templeton, and we’ve all really bonded.
“I definitely think we can surprise some people.”
Mitchell is a sharp-shooting guard who can light it up from the perimeter or slash to the basket, depending on what the defense gives her. She’s planning to play in college, though she won’t narrow down her choices until after her high school season is complete.
“I’ve been passionate about basketball ever since I was young,” she said.
