Masked thief robs Sorrento Valley bank

A thief wearing a Halloween-type old-man mask robbed a Sorrento Valley bank Friday, authorities reported.

The disguised bandit, who was carrying a black computer bag over his shoulder, handed a demand note to a teller at the Bank of America branch office in the 9400 block of Scranton Road shortly before 11:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.

The robber — who was wearing long medical gloves that covered his arms, blue jeans, a purple shirt, beige jacket, khaki fishing hat and a large-nosed “old person mask” — fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

It was not immediately clear if the thief might be the so-called “Geezer Bandit,” who has robbed 11 area banks since last summer, including one in Temecula on Thursday.

FBI officials have said the serial robber, who appears to be in his 70s or 80s, could be a younger man wearing a highly realistic Hollywood-style rubber mask.
